Duties:
Perform complex sentence calculations according to sentencing orders, or applying MCA (Montana Codes Annotated) statue in place of judicial orders. Calculations require extracting, gathering, researching, and analyzing data by interpreting legal documents, relevant sentencing statutes, good time earning rate, level of custody, job held, school attendance, treatment/programming, losses and/or restoration of good time, and whether sentences are running consecutive or concurrent (by judicial authority or operation-of-law). Knowledge of polic! ies, ARM (Administrative Rules of the State of Montana), MCA (Montana Codes Annotated), and prior legal decisions made by DOC Legal Counsel are essential to job performance. Technicians must have a strong understanding of legal documents and terminology. Communicates with inmatesâ attorneys to answer questions concerning their sentence lengths, sentence calculations, and their discharge and parole dates. Acts as a resource and is one of the Department of Corrections specialists concerning inmate records and sentence calculations to; inmates, legal professionals, child support agencies, student loan agencies, immigration, probation and parole officers, department personnel, other State professionals, and victims. Releasing authority for male offenders serving incarcerated terms under the Montana Department of Corrections. Technicians are responsible for applying applicable policy, procedure, laws and providing guidance to departmental staff in the permanent or temporary re! lease of offenders. Provides the Montana Board of Pardon and Paroles in! an offendersâ initial parole board eligibility and provides staff with Parole eligibility lists and expirations. Technician will frequently interpret and evaluate court orders (i.e. Orders to Transport/Produce Inmate) to determine the validity to release/transfer an offender to the custody of any county, state or federal agencies (i.e. U.S. Immigration, U.S Marshalls). Records Technician will process forms, notify, and coordinate with; law enforcement, correctional staff, legal officials and offenders to transport and adjudicate indictments. Records will provide information and direction to interested parties concerning warrant status. Determine if an offender move falls under statutory authority for required notification to law enforcement, legal, and judicial officials. Responds to victims that have requested notification and contact registered victims by phone or mail regarding offender release. Responds to numerous requests for information about legal status of indiv! iduals emanating from the public, including victims, law enforcement agencies, the judicial system and other correctional agencies. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with criminal justice system officials and staff, superiors, co-workers, other state employees, inmates, and the general public. Provide assistance to other law enforcement agencies including providing inmate information, legal disposition, fingerprint and mug shots, as requested. Enter and update records in criminal information data systems on Offender Management Information System (OMIS).
