This position is located in the Probate Hearings Division office in the Office of Hearings and Appeals (OHA) Billings, Montana. The incumbent reports to the Supervisory Administrative Law Judge and performs legal, clerical and administrative support functions for the office.

The Office of Hearings and Appeals (OHA) has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.

First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the lower salary range of the grade level.

The position has a full performance level of GS-07.

At the full performance level of GS-07, the major duties include , but a re not limited to the following :
Receive and transfer phone calls, make copies, prepare and send faxes and emails, prepare time and attendance records;
Review outgoing correspondence and other documents for grammatical and spelling errors;
Coordinate travel arrangements, prepare travel vouchers and authorizations;
Arrange facilities for conferences and hearings and prepare presentation material or background documentation;
Operate court reporter recording equipment and assist the Judge at hearings;
Answer basic and routine questions and inquiries from interested parties regarding adjudicatory procedures and policies;
Prepare and brief witnesses or heirs regarding adjudicatory procedures and policies;
Review !
probate case material to ensure they are current and complete; maintain
the records from initial filing to completion and search various system
records when additional information is required.

As experience is gained, the selectee will perform a broader range of assignments under less supervision.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Minimum Qualifications
GS-05
ALL applicants must meet the requirements for the GS-05 grade level via one of the following means:
Education: Four full years (120 semester hours or 180 quarter hours) beyond high school at an accredited institution. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)
OR

Specialized Experience:
To qualify at the GS-05 grade level, you must have at least one FULL year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfu! lly the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to ! the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as : experience as a Secretary or Administrative Assistant in a professional setting. Experience includes: customer service skills and phone etiquette, sort and distribute mail and use a filing system; basic computer software skills to produce reports, correspondence, spreadsheets, and keep calendars.
OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience totaling 100% of the requirement. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)

Specialized Experience GS-6:
To qualify at the GS-06 grade level, you must have at least one FULL year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular ! knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as: experience as a Secretary or Administrative Assistant in a professional setting. Experience includes: the experience listed for the GS-05 grade level as well as experience assisting with travel authorizations and vouchers; reviewing of file and legal documents for completeness.

Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as: experience as a Secretary or Administrative Assistant in a professional setting. Experience includes: the experience listed for the GS-06 grade level as well as experience working with Fede! ral Indian Probates, and experience working with a case tracking system! s or database.
