Job Description


As the Electronic Development Engineer, you are responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of electronic systems for our automated laboratory systems in Munich, Germany. The position is globally oriented and works across multiple development disciplines and geographic locations:


  • Independently designs, plans, and executes assigned tasks. Applies experience, engineering principles, and design methodologies to resolve issues. Works across diverse functional disciplines within the global business
  • Hands-on design and development from concept through to manufacturing including architecture and circuit design, calculations, component selection, tolerance analysis, specifications, risk analysis, In-Circuit and Functional Circuit testing, manuals, training materials, and support to regulatory submissions
  • Responsible for the timely development of quality and innovative products to meet customer needs as well as company goals, objectives, cost targets, and schedules. Applies advanced engineering knowledge to projects.
  • Ensures utilization of an integrated quality and stage gate process to ensure excellence in product development and post-launch support activities
  • Ensures that all products meet or exceed quality, safety, reliability, and customer expectations by adhering to a robust process of verification and validation testing. Determines priorities for testing that challenges and proves the design. Interprets data and reports, recommends and initiates appropriate courses of action within the electrical and electronics field
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of international standards, and recommends and supports changes to engineering practice or project life cycles to ensure compliance. Responsible for compliance of products to cFDA, ISO, UL/CSA, CE, QSR, CE, IVDD, and other applicable regulatory requirements (and in particular EMC and IEC61010)
  • Works with all parts of the business including production and servicing to resolve technical issues related to product design, manufacturability, testing, and performance. Contributes to process improvements in product quality, reliability, and suitability in order to maintain commercial success
  • Maintains strong collaborative partnerships with all engineering disciplines including outside partners
  • Works with respective R&D Leadership to set the business’ strategic vision and direction for electronics technology and product development, aligned to global plans.

Qualifications


Experience in leading projects and teams in low-volume precision manufacturing.


  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical and Electronics Engineering.
  • 8+ years of experience in complex laboratory automation with Medical Device or In Vitro Diagnostics industry experience
  • A track record of delivering electronics design and development of new products successfully launched in the market and management of current product evolutions in a global marketplace
  • Thorough understanding of product and technology development via a disciplined stage-gate process in an agile environment. Technically proficient with expert knowledge of engineering principles (for prototyping and manufacturing) and concepts in electro-mechanical laboratory automation or similar products
  • Leadership qualities, including leading and developing engineers in a global, cross-functional environment.
  • Experienced in PCBA design, drawings, bill of materials, prototyping, manufacturing, and testing
  • Wide experience in laboratory automation (instruments and their associated consumables) with Medical Devices or In Vitro Diagnostics industry experience best practice understanding and experience of motors, bearings, drives, and actuators.
  • Design for assembly, cost, and manufacturing skills.
  • Adherence to a stage-gated quality system.
  • Experienced in Testing/Verification of product design for release.
