Provides paralegal assistance to staff attorneys.
Conducts legal research; Drafts legal documents as requested.
Prepares appropriate correspondence.
Assists staff attorneys in preparing for case trials.
This position is the line supervisor of the legal secretarial support group. Supervisory duties include: monitoring work assignments, determining and providing training needs, recruiting and hiring, evaluating performance, and approving leave requests and time sheets.

Thorough knowledge of legal research, investigative techniques, and legal concepts of state law, policies, adminisÂtrative regulations, case law, and ethical standards. Knowledge of Rules of Civil Procedures, Montana District Court Rules, which govern litigation, Rules of Evidence, principles and sequencing of pleadings, submission procedures for motions and exhibits is also required. This position requires effective report and legal writing using correct legal citations and terminology, vocabulary, grammar and spelling.
This position requires knowledge of: Supervisory principles,work flow management; training methods; manual and computer tracking and database systems; organizational methods and techniques. Ability to make difficult decisions in relation to disciplinary and corrective actions.
Education/Experience:
The above knowledge, skills and abilities are usually acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, two years vocational training (preferably in paralegal studies), and three years of recent progressively responsible and related paralegal or legal secretary experience, including experience with staff supervision, document preparation, and trial support.
