Duties:
This position is responsible for providing legal support to and representation for the Department of Public Health and Human Services, but primarily to the department's Human Resources office. This position conducts research of employment issues and human resources topics; represents the Department in judicial and quasi-judicial venues in matters regarding, for non-inclusive example, human resources, human rights, unemployment insurance at federal and state levels; and reviews and edits department policies and procedures pertaining to the department's union and non-union employment relations.
Competencies:
Required for the first day of work:
- Knowledge of legal research methods and techniques, including use of LEXIS, Westlaw, and the ! internet.
- Knowledge of administrative review procedures, all a! spects of the Montana Administrative Procedures Act (MAPA), and judicial review procedures.
- Ability to analyze difficult legal problems and synthesize a course of action.
- Ability to maintain an effective relationship with persons in their immediate work group and throughout the department.
- Ability to develop a level of confidence among the individuals they are providing legal advice.
- Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited law school
- Admitted to practice law as an attorney in Montana in both state and federal courts.
- Three years’ experience in the practice of employment law.
