Full-time position available with the Finance Department, Revenue Division located at 414 E. 12th St.
Salary Range: $22.61-$34.48/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the processing of tax forms and payments with the City’s lockbox vendor to insure proper processing procedures are followed.
  • Researches and posts all payments and tax returns not processed by lockbox vendor.
  • Researches and corrects tax returns and payments that, due to taxpayer error or system requirements, are not systematically posted to taxpayer accounts
  • Completes various accounting functions necessary for proper fund and revenue source accounting.
  • Understands and explains City ordinances, regulations, policies and procedures to taxpayers, tax preparers, payroll companies, accountants, attorneys, business owners and the public.
  • Assists the public in person and by telephone by handling complex taxpayer issues, complaints and other related questions as necessary and required.
  • Assists citizens by educating the public on the City’s taxes and the role of the Revenue Division in the collection of taxes and fees collected by the Revenue Division.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of laws, regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines applicable to the collection and processing of tax returns and payments.
  • Completes account maintenance functions associated with the Division tax data base.
  • Supports the divisional and departmental strategic work plans.
  • Signs and adheres to City/IRS confidentiality agreements.
  • Performs duties as assigned.

Qualifications


REQUIRES an high school graduation and 3 years public or private sector experience in customer service work; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience. May be required to be bonded.

Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.

Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
