Duties:
Represents the securities and insurance departments in criminal, civil, and administrative proceedings; prepares legal materials for presentation at insurance and securities-related administrative hearings, appellate courts, trials and other legal proceedings; researches and investigates referrals from the Chie! f Legal Counsel on insurance and securities matters concerning regulatory administration affecting the Office of the Commissioner of Securities and Insurance (CSI), Montana State Auditor; attends agency meetings concerning specific legal matters affecting the agency; advises agency staff on administrative matters; researches and prepares proposed legislation; testifies at legislative hearings; reviews investigative files to determine legal compliance; prepares legal opinions; drafts and reviews administrative rules; and performs related work as required.
Competencies:
General knowledge of federal and Montana insurance and securities law and case authority regarding litigation, practice and procedure generally developed through experience in the area; ability to do research, analyze and interpret legal documents and instruments; draft concise legal opinions, briefs, and legislation; establish effective working relationships
with supervisor, emplo! yees, and other agencies and the public; communicate with supervisor, e! mployees, and other agencies and the public; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; and advocate agency's position on legal matters.
Education/Experience:
A Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school and admitted to practice law in the state of Montana. Applicant qualifications will be evaluated on an individual basis. Applicant may be hired under a training assignment at a lower annual salary.
