Do you have experience in a legal setting? This Administrative Assistant position works for Office of Fair Hearings at the Department of Health and Human Services . We are looking for employees who can help us to provide services to promote health people and healthy communities.

Duties:
This position is responsible for ! providing paraprofessional legal assistance to a staff of five Administrative Hearing Officers including identification of case-specific legal issues; preparing legal documents and correspondence; maintaining official calendar of proceedings and official records and filing systems; and preparing hearing transcripts, data compilations, and high-volume daily mail processing.

Competencies:Required for the first day of work:
  • Knowledge of office management practices and procedures, business letter writing, business language, spelling, grammar and composition.
  • Knowledge of legal terminology, legal citations, legal forms, and documents.
  • Knowledge of research methods and techniques needed for the preparation of orders and other legal documents, administrative procedures, laws, and practices relating to administrative hearings and public assistance and health programs.
  • Knowledge of federal/state/agency laws, rules, regul! ations, and policies pertaining to the human services field.
  • S! kill in organization.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and general office equipment as necessary to complete essential functions, including using spreadsheets, word processing, databases, email, internet, and other computer programs.
  • Ability to draft accurate legal documents.
  • Ability to use research materials
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationship with staff, departmental employees, other agencies, county staff, and attorneys.
  • Ability to multi-task and balance multiple projects under deadline pressure.
Education/Experience:
  • Two years job-related college or vocational training.
  • Two years of job-related work experience in a legal setting.
  • Other combinations of directly related education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Paralegal training is preferred.
